SCAPIS ÄR SVERIGES hittills största forskningsstudie inom hjärt-lungsjukdom. I världen har man inte gjort något liknande tidigare. I studien har 30 000 slumpvis utvalda svenskar med olika socioekonomisk bakgrund genomgått omfattande hälsoundersökningar och lämnat prover i kombination med avancerade röntgenundersökningar av blodkärl och organ. SCAPIS, Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage Study, är en befolkningsstudie kring kardiovaskulär, epidemisk och genetisk forskning som initierades av svenska forskare 2007. En första pilotstudie gjordes 2012 för att säkerställa att befolkningsstudien var möjlig att genomföra och 2014 startades den stora SCAPIS-studien.
